BrandEins is one of these rare publications that – starting the moment it appeared – made the media landscape a little better just by virtue of being there. Strictly speaking, it’s a German economics magazine, but that doesn’t do it justice. It’s more like the stories behind economic notions, entrepreneurs, ideas, all told and explained with core values and a bit of an attitude.

So I was super happy to meet with BrandEins editor Mischa, who was working on the kickoff story for a large series on what ever became of the New Economy. Said kickoff was to feature Netzpiloten (both Netzpiloten and BrandEins are from Hamburg, and both launched around the same time, more or less), who were founded by good friend and frequent collaborator Wolfgang Macht. I have worked with both the company and with Wolfgang himself many times over the last 8 years or so, and held at some point or another roles like project manager or head editor of online mag Netzpiloten.de (formerly blogpiloten.de), and many others. We’re also currently developing a new project together, to launch in 2015.

It was in this role as a long time collaborator and companion of Netzpiloten/Wolfgang that I was interviewed for this story. However, I had no idea I would end up pretty prominently and with lots of (kind but undeserved) praise as a digital pioneer and thought leader:

It goes on in that vein for a bit. What a very nice end-of-year surprise!
